Even in the knowledge transfer period CD is taking decisions and developing AEGEE. This time we approved a new contact in Ploiesti and let them tell more about their city!
Ploiesti is located 60 km north of Bucharest and it is the county seat of Prahova.
The town was established in 1596, during the reign of Mihai Viteazul (Michael the Brave). It rapidly flourished as a center for trade and handicraft manufacturing in the 17th and 18th centuries. The road connecting Ploiesti to Brasov was opened in 1864, and the railway arrived in 1882. Many schools and hospitals were built around this time.
Today it is the 9th most populous city in Romania (232 000 citizens) and it is traditionally built around the oil industry hosting four operating refineries linked through pipes to Bucharest, Constanta and Giurgiu. Also in the recent years multinational companies invested and opened businesses.
The city also hosts the 62 year old Petroleum and Gas University with about 11 000 students attending each year. The University has five faculties where students study not only Petroleum Engineering, Mechanical and Electrical Engineering, but also Education, Economical Sciences and IT.
