One of the most expected events in February was organized by AEGEE-Burgos and was called Morcillote 3.0. It was very crazy going to Burgos in February because of the weather but it was worth it. We constantly thought about the upcoming event, because we heard it was very special the previous years.
AEGEE-Alicante had a good welcome after travelling 650 km and fortunately we had two strong big men helping us with the luggage. The lift of the hostel also went on holiday that weekend… Most of the rooms were on the seven floor, but others stayed on the second floor where we went to do exercise and eat in the dining room.
We had a meeting for the new members in AEGEE to get to know everybody and their names; someone gave us heart stickers with our names on to make it easier. At the beginning, it was impossible to remember all the names but after three days together, we finally knew them very well.
Friday was “Suit Up Party” so we had to dress up. Everybody was elegant, handsome and well-dressed. Before going out we ate scrambled eggs with potatoes and chorizo, very light!! Afterwards everybody went to a pub called Tin-Tin. AEGEE-Burgos reserved it for AEGEE people. The waiters were helpful with great music and gave us good price for the drinks. We were very lucky since the owner even extended the opening hours so we did not have to leave too early.
Surprisingly, when we left the pub it was lightly snowing. AEGEE-Burgos guided us to the hostel preventing us getting lost.
On Saturday, after waking up we knocked on each room before going down to have breakfast. Then the plan was to go to Raquel family’s home, from AEGEE-Burgos, to cook “morcillas, garlic soup and torrijas”. It was hilarious to see us getting dirty with the blood, luckily we were told to use old clothes and the organizers gave us an apron to wear.
After happily eating everything we cooked, we went back to the hostel to rest a little or even have a siesta. After a while, we had to get ready to go out to have tapas around Burgos.
The streets of the city were full of people, from children to adults all in their costumes. We also watched the carnival parade through the streets of Burgos. The people of Burgos really enjoy and live the fantasy of the carnival.
At night, we had our own Costume Party and European Night. The organizers booked the most excellent pub, called Tweet. Everybody brought typical food and drinks from their region. AEGEE-Burgos gave the signal to get started. The theme of the costume party was movie characters and there were very elaborate and original costumes. The same pub had a corridor that led us to another dance floor upstairs. We had lovely identification badges with our names on for the Morcillote event.
The last day in Burgos we had the great city tour on a cold and rainy day four, but it did not really matter because we enjoyed all the monuments there and Rubén Sanz told us nearly the whole history of Burgos.
The saddest part was saying goodbye and returning to Alicante after a frenetic and funny weekend in Burgos where we had a really good time.
I hope to enjoy again an amazing experience like this with all the friends I made in Burgos.
