AEGEE-Europe is proud to announce that one of our Antennae – AEGEE-Budapest was chosen this week to be the Hosting Organisation for the Hungarian Presidency Project Officer. That means that AEGEE will play a significant role in the next term of the European Union’s presidency!

On the 1st of January 2010 Hungary will take over the Presidency of the Council of European Union for half a year. The Presidency plays an important role in drafting the current and future policy of the European Union. European Youth Forum YFJ was always closely co-operating with the leading country in order to ensure youth being a significant matter in every decision that has been taken. The position of the Presidency Project Officer was in the past appointed from National Youth Councils but due to the lack of such a structure in Hungary an open-call for Hosting Organisation was announced.

In the framework of this project, a Presidency Project Officer is recruited in order to liaise between the national youth field and the YFJ and represent the YFJ and the youth organisations of the Presidency country in their work with the Presidency.

AEGEE-Europe together with AEGEE-Budapest applied for the position in order to play a more visible and more active role in the policy making process. Thanks to great work that was done by Agata Patecka, Ildiko Ferencsik, Mirek Krzanik, Annamaria Nemmeth and David Acs the application was positively evaluated and AEGEE-Budapest is officially appointed as the Hosting Organisation!

What does it mean for AEGEE? That means that AEGEE, together with European Youth Forum YFJ and the Presidency Policy Officer, who will be selected separately, will take part in the process of creating youth policy. It is even more important position when we consider the fact that youth matters are one of the three priorities of the current presidential trio! To make it clear: AEGEE is back on tracks to lead young Europeans to their brighter future! We hope, or maybe it’s better to say that we are sure, that now, together with YFJ, Hungarian and European politicians we will implement all of the ideas that AEGEE has. The matters that are important for us will be from now on important also for the EU Presidency.
