When did you join AEGEE?

Jorge: I do not know the exact date, but I know it was one day before the deadline for the Summer Universities this year. The talk with my friend at 2 AM was very much worth it.

Why did you join AEGEE?

I wanted to have a different summer, meet new people from everywhere and travel around. I was also interested in the Environmental Working Group (EnWG), even though I did not know what its function was.

What have you done in AEGEE so far?

I went to the Summer University “A Dutch-Deustch Adventure” organized by AEGEE-Enschede, AEGEE-Köln and AEGEE-Utrecht (which was great! I recommend it to everyone for 2014!) I have been helping with organizing the Mediterraneanly! Agora pre-event. Also, I attended a Youth in Action (YiA) project called “Green Leaders” on the part of AEGEE in Istanbul this September. After this, I joined the EnWG as the secretary, and now I am attending the AGORA Zaragoza 2013. But I have a lot of things in mind and I really want to get deep in AEGEE. It means a lot to me already!

When did you become interested in photography?

I have always been interested in photography, my mom had an old camera that I would use some years ago all the time. But my interest in photography became stronger when I turned 18.

How is it to work professionally as a photographer?

If we define proffessional photographer as someone that gets paid for taking pictures, then I am a proffessional photographer, otherwise, I am just a noob trying to get better everyday.

I am, mainly, a nightlife photographer, and I also do a bit of fashion photography as a hobbie. I work for a company and take pictures at parties, concerts, pubs, events, for alcohol brands and sometimes even at supermarkets. I love my job because I get to meet a lot of people, make contacts and have fun with my friends at the same time as I earn money and get better at taking pictures and editing them.

What made you interested in becoming a helper for Agora Zaragoza?

I am very interested in how AEGEE works and this was my best chance to do three things I really wanted to do: meet a lot of AEGEEans, work in a group and to attend the AGORA to see how everything works.

What is special about being part of the helper’s team?

Being part of the helper’s team of the best AGORA that I will have the chance to see in AEGEE, you mean? (Because I was not in Alicante 2011)

What tips can you give for people that know less about photography?

Be patient, take time for things to go as you want. It is not about the camera, but about the photographer. Get your gear out on the streets and shoot!

In the preparations of the Agora The AEGEEan is again looking for a responsible to capture moments on film during the Autumn Agora Budapest 2012. One possible photographer who is perfect to help out – Dasha Onokhova from AEGEE-Moskva. She took fantastic pictures at the EBM Izmir and has been working on the latest Key2Europe (K2E) so there is no doubt that she knows how to work a camera and what comes out of it.

Just like The AEGEEan gave the readers the opportunity to get to know the photographer Lea Charlet before Spring Agora Enschede, the journalist Patricia Anthony took the time to get to know Dasha and the reason behind her love of photography.

The AEGEEan: First of all, how did you find out about AEGEE?

Dasha: My friend told me about this organisation. He found AEGEE, when searching for some internship, but actually he is not so active anymore. But I am an active member in my antenna and I am trying to be even more active on the European level. I cannot imagine my life without AEGEE – it is my family. AEGEE brings a lot of opportunities, positive emotions, great people and love! All together we will make our future the best one!

You have recently been working on the K2E, how was that experience?

Working with the K2E was a good opportunity for me to become more active with AEGEE on European level and to work with an amazing and talented team! But it is complicated to work online, everybody doing his or her job, but they need to collaborate and understand each other in order to get great work in the end.

How long have you been interested in photography?

I started being interested in photography about three years ago, when my father bought a semi-professional reflex camera for his hobby, and it became my hobby too. Now this is a hobby which brings me money and shows my views to the world.

Why do you like photography?

Photography is my passion! For now I cannot live without my camera. Through the lens you see the world in a different perspective and you want to show this amazing world to everybody! In photography you can stop time, catch the emotion, capture the history, and make people happy with these memories!

Besides being an active AEGEE member and loving photography, what do you use your time for?

Besides AEGEE and photography I study interior and exterior design. I want to make the beauty of our world more functional, and more ecologically friendly. I am also a very active person, I love to be engaged in new activities every day and gain new knowledge.

Why were you interested in taking pictures for The AEGEEan?

Dasha took pictures like this during EBM and will behind the camera in Budapest again

First of all because AEGEE is my family, and The AEGEEan is like an album with all memories, but it is also a communication tool for members and the rest of the world. And this way of communication must be clear, informative and interesting. So I want to show AEGEE in a good way and make happy memories!

Dasha is going to be the one behind the lens in Budapest capturing all the moments on film! So make sure that you will stay tuned to the website, if you want to keep up with the live updates, pictures and possibly videos posted here and on Facebook.

Papa-paparazzi! Now when thinking of a paparazzi it is usually negative but in this occasion the AEGEEan has gotten their own little paparazzi, and it is definitely a positive thing!

She was member of the month of the “Tripulacion” region who is taken care by Luis Alvarado Martinez and his team. She is member of the Speak Up! project which you could read about recently on The AEGEEan and now she is the official photographer of The AEGEEan team for the upcoming Spring Agora Enschede. So if you want your picture taken, get shown on our Facebook site, have an important group moment captured then you should try to notice where Lea Charlette will be during the Agora, because she will be the one taking pictures for The AEGEEan. How can you find her you may ask, and The AEGEEan will try to help you out. First of all, she will be wearing a badge similar to The AEGEEan badges that editors and journalists were wearing during the EBM Izmir. Second of all, you can read about her here and get to know about her love for AEGEE and photography.

The AEGEEan: How did you hear about AEGEE?

Lea: I heard about AEGEE last year when I was in Italy through two friends from Santander, and when I arrived back in Paris in September I instantly became a member of AEGEE-Paris.  I was elected secretary and responsible of Human Resource in November and I was the main coordinator of the last Regional Training Course in Paris. As mentioned I am a member of the team of the Speak Up project (a French tour promoting youth participation) and I’m actually also working on a project started by Luis Alvarado Martinez and Edouard Mougin. We want to find all the first articles about the Network which was published in French newspapers at the time of the first conference EGEEI. We will do that by transcribing the archive that we could find and then translate it into English so that everyone can enjoy it. (Document will be published in May)

Lea captured during RTC Paris

For how long have you been interested in photography?

I bought my first camera two months before leaving for my Erasmus, so I learned to take pictures during that whole year.  There are so many amazing landscapes, so many friends, so many things to be photographed.

Why do you like photography?

I love taking portraits of people when they don’t look at me, or when they are laughing. It is so much better than a smile sometimes.

Besides being an active AEGEE member and loving photography what do you use your time for?

I study law so… studying  and I play trumpet, so go to my orchestra or play for myself. I also try to keep some time to see my friends, and family.

Why were you interested in taking pictures for The AEGEEan?

This is a great way to meet people, and to be more useful for AEGEE, and to be an active participant of the Agora.

So if you want your photo taken, then look out for this French girl at the Agora and maybe a picture of you will be published to more than 2000 viewers.
